Gorillaz s’allie à IDLES sur “The God of Lying”, troisième single tiré de leur prochain album The Mountain. Moins punk que ce qu’on pourrait attendre du groupe de Joe Talbot, mais tout aussi intense. Ici, la colère se fait méditative.

Écrit par Damon Albarn et Joe Talbot, le morceau a été enregistré entre Londres, le Devon et Mumbai, et fait appel au bansuri d’Ajay Prasanna et aux percussions de Viraj Acharya. Le résultat : une ambiance flottante entre dub, accents indiens et nonchalance reggae, où la voix de Talbot interroge plus qu’elle ne hurle même si d’habitude j’aime bien quand elle le fait (pas vous ?).
Sous la surface, la chanson reste fidèle à l’esprit punk : une suite de questions sociales et existentielles, sans réponse facile. « Le doute est très fatigant, mais se poser des questions est vraiment bon pour vous », confie 2D, le chanteur virtuel du groupe.
