On pensait qu’Alabama Shakes avait rangé les amplis au grenier, coincé quelque part entre Boys & Girls (2012) et Sound & Color (2015). Dix ans sans nouveau morceau, c’est long, surtout quand on a encore dans les oreilles la voix volcanique de Brittany Howard. Et puis, soudain, Another Life débarque.
Dix ans de silence, puis l’explosion
Depuis 2018, le groupe était officiellement en pause. Brittany Howard s’était lancée en solo (avec deux albums qui ont pas marqué l’histoire de la musique), pendant que Heath Fogg et Zac Cockrell se faisaient discrets. Mais fin 2024, un concert surprise en Alabama a rallumé la flamme. Puis est arrivée l’annonce d’une tournée de retrouvailles en 2025. On savait que ça sentait le retour, mais on n’osait pas trop y croire.
Another Life, une renaissance
Le morceau, enregistré à Nashville avec le fidèle Shawn Everett, parle de chemins parallèles, de destins croisés et de ce qu’on laisse derrière soi. La voix de Brittany Howard est toujours aussi puissante, oscillant entre douceur et rugosité, et l’orchestration renoue avec ce mélange de soul, de rock et de groove qui a fait la signature du groupe.
Et maintenant ?
Avec une tournée prévue de juillet à septembre en Amérique du Nord, tout laisse penser qu’Another Life n’est qu’un premier pas vers un futur album. Dix ans d’attente, ça crée des attentes, mais si ce single est un avant-goût, Alabama Shakes est de retour pour de vrai.
