Declan McKenna vient de lancer son propre label indépendant, Miniature Ponies, ce qui est bien. Pour fêter cela il balance deux singles flambant neufs – le tapageur Champagne et son acolyte énergique mais lucide That’s Life.

Première livraison depuis sa rupture avec Columbia, ces titres marquent ses débuts d’artiste indépendant et suivent la sortie en février de son troisième album « What Happened To The Beach? » (il y a surement un jeu de mots)
« Champagne et That’s Life ont pris forme ces derniers mois, les premières pistes finies que j’ai produites avec mon pote Jules [Apollinaire] », raconte Declan. « Ce sont des vieilles idées que j’ai ravivées en tripotant tout ça dans mon nouveau studio – pour la première fois, je me suis même collé à la batterie sur Champagne pour un morceau complet. » C’est une indie pop rock pétillante, je valide.
« Champagne m’a emporté dans des concepts plus grandioses, une vraie théâtralité ; les paroles évoquent ce qui se passe une fois qu’on atteint un palier de succès. That’s Life, elle, c’est un cycle, une boucle qui traduit bien la cruauté avec laquelle la vie tourne parfois. »
Declan McKenna sera sur scène avec Sabrina Carpenter pour sa tournée nord-américaine Short N’ Sweet, avant d’aller enflammer l’Australie aux côtés de Two Door Cinema Club.
